Why does the building layout follow the 3-4-5 Method? Identify a Base Line: 1. Start by marking a baseline along one edge of the area where the right angle is needed. For example, this could be the edge of a foundation or a wall. Measure Along the Base: 2. From one end of the baseline, measure 3 units along this line. Mark the end of this measurement as Point A. Measure Perpendicular Line: 3. From the same starting point (Point O), measure 4 units at approximately a 90-degree angle to the base. You can use an adjustable square or approximate the angle by eye. Mark the end of this measurement as Point B. Check the Hypotenuse: 4.
